How To Install Wordpress Blog FREE Video Tutorial

Internet Marketing No Comments

Ever wanted to install Wordpress blog software on your own server, but didn’t know where to start? …

… then read on, because I have a FREE video tutorial for you.

You see, I’ve been meeting with some “beginner” Internet Marketers who really want to get ahead, and it seems that the buzz on the street is definitely running your own blog on your own domain with your own web-site.

Yet, the majority of guys I’ve spoken too are either using their Blogger account or some other freely hosted blog. They all say the same thing …

“I can’t get my blog indexed … how comes you make a post and a few days later it’s on Google?!”

“I can’t get the design to fit in with my web-site … how comes you’re able to make your blog’s look and feel match your web-site?!”

Well, I have a confession.

I used to be in the same position. I used to have the same difficulties, until one day I worked it all out …

… you need to install Wordpress software on your own server.

This gives you total control over the look and feel, it allows you to integrate your web-site and blog together very easily, and it means your content gets indexed really fast in Google — sometimes the same day :-)

But this is where everyone seems to have a problem, they just don’t know how to install the Wordpress software on their own web-site. So I thought I’d give you a helping hand …

… I’ve recorded a video on how to install a Wordpress blog on your own server. It lasts just under 10 minutes, but the actual install time is … erm … about 1 minute (if you take out all my commentary!)

Take a look and let me know what you think, ok?

Internet Marketing Explained … no, *seriously*, I mean it!

Internet Marketing No Comments

There are so many people these days who want to know all about Internet Marketing and really want an easy way to understand it — they’re looking for the definitive Internet Marketing Explained course.

Well, I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of Armand Morin’s course Internet Marketing Explained, as it was one of those special purchases I made whilst at The World Internet Summit UK 2007.

I seriously respect Armand Morin. He’s really got this Internet Marketing thing down to a tee. And if you ever get a chance to see him live, then go for it.

As for his training, and as part of the IME (Internet Marketing Explained) experience, I’ve discovered some of Armand’s FREE (yes, I said FREE) resources. He’s GIVING away information … quality information, that is.

For example, do you want a step-by-step video tutorial on creating an eBook? You’ve got it. Do you want to know how to set up an opt-in page? It’s yours. How about the method for creating MASSIVE traffic to your web-site? Ok, take it.

Here’s a list of the current free quality information you can grab for no cost (and I say current because Armand’s updating the list almost every day):

  • eBook Creation Process
  • An Obvious Truth
  • Opt-In Pages
  • Quick eBook Creation
  • The Follow-Up Process
  • Massive Traffic
  • Three Membership Site Models
  • Product Creation Video
  • Two RentaCoder Secrets
  • Linear Vs. Circular Strategy
  • The Internet Marketing Model
  • Internet Marketing Explained

Do you want to know more? Then simply watch this video. It will hopefully intrigue you enough to find out more and take advantage of the free information.

[Edited: It turns out that quite a lot of people are experiencing problems with the video, so if it doesn’t appear after refreshing your page (F5) then you can skip the video and try going here: Internet Marketing Explained… it just goes to show how popular Armand’s videos have become!]

Now, I can’t force you to be successful by using this FREE knowledge to get ahead. I can’t make you an Internet Marketer. That’s your job.

But let me add just this. During the time I’ve been a student of Internet Marketing Explained, I’ve discovered the very reasons why and where I’ve been failing in the past, and since studying Armand Morin’s Internet Marketing Explained course I’ve managed to double my online income (just by implementing one of the strategies I learned) and once I’ve implemented everything that’s in my plan, I’ll be able upgrade my entire lifestyle.

Now isn’t that something to aim for yourself …?

The Money’s In The List … But Only If You Use It!

Internet Marketing No Comments

Some people have asked what can be learned by attending The World Internet Summit.

Well, actually quite a lot. But here’s something from my own experience …

… I sent out an email last week. The next morning I had $185 in my commission account. Total time spent - 10 minutes. I did the same thing again on Thursday just gone. So far the commissions have been $325, and it’s still rising. Again, it only took 10 minutes.

How would you like to earn over $500 for 20 minutes work?

Now I’m not telling you all this to brag. It’s just that I learned an important lesson whilst at the event.

You see, I’d already built a list in a particular niche. How did I do this? I’ll tell you in another post soon, I promise. The important thing to know is that my list isn’t that big.

BUT, I’ve always been concerned about emailing too often. And so, with that, or perhaps because I’m a little lazy (hey, how lazy do you have to be to not spend 20 minutes tapping away at a keyboard??!), I ended up not emailing at all.

But that’s just it. If you email TOO often, you might lose some customers, or you might not. Either way, you’ll be in a better position to earn some commission had you not emailed. And if you don’t email at all, then your list will become stale, and people will unsubscribe as soon as you do email them.

Overall, you’re better off sending emails rather than not sending emails.

It’s a valuable lesson to learn.

So, even if I learned nothing else over those four days, I learned enough to earn myself $500 for twenty minutes work.

Now be honest, wouldn’t you attend The World Internet Summit if you knew you’d earn some money as soon as you got home?

How To Create A Digital Product

Internet Marketing No Comments

Well, I’ve been asked so many different questions, and the main one seems to be “How can I create a product to sell on the Internet?”

Hey, that’s a good question.

Which is why I’m going to answer it here.

Actually, I’m not going to answer the question, I’m going to hand the stage over to Armand Morin — hey, I guess he knows a thing or two about creating products to sell on the Internet, doesn’t he? :-)

Now, the video below lasts 1hr 16 minutes and is of a presentation he gave back in August 2006, but it’s not from The World Internet Summit. This is his presentation from the X10 seminar.

Oh, I can hear you say already, “But surely August 2006 information is out of date??!”

Usually on the Internet, yes — whatever has been out for a week or more is mostly out of date when we talk about Internet speed. But this is different, because Armand talks strategy rather than tactics. (There’s an important difference!).

However, he still covers some fantastic material that you can use to create your own product to sell on the Internet …

… it’s the kind of thing you can easily learn if you ever get to attend a World Internet Summit event in the future.

Have fun — oh, and take lots of notes!

What Advice Do The Experts Give Us …

Internet Marketing No Comments

When it came to the World Internet Summit UK 2007, there seemed to be certain themes that the experts focused on.

Without exception, every speaker would re-iterate certain themes, and I’d just like to expand upon those in both this post and in future posts to this blog. These seem to be the themes that every wannabe newbie Internet Marketer should take on board.

1. Write a blog

I’d say that one of the themes that came out of the event was “get a blog.”

Why?

Because it’s the one simple way to generate lots of content for your website, and as we all know content is like search engine spider food (yum, yum). And if you have lots of regularly changing content, then you start to get higher kudos from the likes of Google.

Now, I don’t know if this is true, but it’s said that a blog has a much better natural rank than a static web-site. I haven’t seen any evidence of this, not clear evidence, but I can confirm that when I’ve used blogs my web-site gets indexed faster (ok, I have a few tips and tricks here, maybe I’ll disclose them another time) and ranked higher for my keywords.

But here’s another really cool strategy which came out in Shaune Clarke’s presentation …

… write content to your blog to get Google to fall in love with you. When the romance is underway, you can then use Google Adwords to point directly to a squeeze page without being penalised for having a poor landing page experience. Hmmmm, very cool idea. And I can see how that one works. The regular changing blog content makes you in favour with Google so that when your landing page only has an opt-in form (something that would usually penalise you with a higher bid price) they look at your site and say “well, he’s kind-a ok ‘cos he’s got all this wonderful changing content … we’ll let him off for now …”

But which blog software should you use?

You can obviously blog for free with either blogger.com or wordpress.com and you can have your blog set up within minutes.

Now most people advocate using Wordpress, but having it installed on your own domain. I’ll go with this advice too. Wordpress.org is the place you want to visit to grab the software. It’s free, and really simple to install. But if you have a hosting account that provides CPanel and Fantastico then installing a blog is something like 3 clicks at most! There’s a hosting service that I recommend just because of this (never mind the free vouchers for pay per click marketing worth something like $50+ by itself) and because of the free domain for life they provide.

2. Build your list

If you have a list of subscribers, then you can use follow-up marketing.

It’s as simple as that.

You see, it’s very rare for people to buy from your web-site on the very first visit, and it’s so difficult to even get that visitor back to your web-site without a little persuasion.

So, the sooner you can grab their email address, the sooner you can invite the person back to your web-site.

Even if you only build a list of customers. There’s lots of evidence to show that it’s far easier to sell something more to an existing customer than it is to get a new customer.

So build the list, from the start. (Yes, I know I haven’t got my opt-in form on this blog … it’s going to be the next thing I put up, honest!)

Now there’s lots of systems out there to use. You could just get the person’s name and email address sent to you via email and then you put them into your Outlook contacts. However, trust me, this is not the way to go. And the sooner you start properly, the quicker you’ll get results.

I used to run my own “autoresponder” (as they’re called) from my own server. I was horrified though that none of my AOL subscribers were getting my emails. It was because one AOL user had marked my message as SPAM, even though he had previously opted-in to receive my emails! (Hey, it happens, you’d better get used to it!)

Not only that, but soon after I couldn’t send to any Hotmail users either. Overall, I think I was getting a delivery rate (that’s delivery, not open rate) of about 20%.

I swiftly moved over to AWeber as my autoresponder service, and I’ve never looked back.

You can also take a look at GetResponse, or even the autoresponders that come with the likes of Valued Client System (an excellent suite of products if you’re thinking of getting into the Internet Marketing business)

Just to give you an idea of the power of having a list. Two days ago I sent out an email to a small list of subscibers (it’s less than 1000, but targeted to a particular niche). Today I have $200 in commissions from purchases made from recommendations in the email.

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

3. Learn copywriting

Perhaps the biggest and greatest skill you can develop is to learn how to write good copy. You’ll need it for everything, after all. You’ll need it for your blog posts (Is this good copy? Let me know!); you’ll need it for your Adwords adverts; you’ll need it for your follow-up emails; you’ll need it for your sales and landing pages.

Good copy converts. Great copy converts even more so :-)

Oh, and here’s a fact for you. Long copy converts better than short copy. Now most probably you’re just like me in that you don’t enjoy reading long pages of sales pitch. Well, here’s something. Brett McFall asked the people in the audience who enjoyed reading long copy. And the majority of people agreed that short sales letters were better.

WRONG.

You see, when we all agree that the short copy is good, we’re actually not buyers, we’re readers. However, long copy converts more buyers. Now, if you were a buyer, you’d be more inclined to find out absolutely everything you can about a product before making up your mind. And when I’ve bought in the past, yes, I’ve read the whole blooming sales page from top to bottom, just to make sure I’m making the right decision!

Also, when you write copy, you want to put yourself in the shoes of the buyer. I’ve briefly talked about this before, that if you had the exact problem that the sales copy solved, then you’ll be able to write better copy because of it.

And here’s another simple tip about copywriting. Only write for buyers.

I’ll re-iterate that one …

… ONLY WRITE FOR BUYERS.

Don’t bother trying to convert every single person who lands on your sales page. It won’t happen. Just write for those people who are going to buy, and you’ll find that your conversions go up.

Don’t believe me?

Well, why don’t you give it a try and let me know your results, eh?

4. Article marketing

Very similar to blogging, but with a different focus, article marketing is all about writing articles that have your link on the bottom of the article, and then posting these articles to article directory sites.

What happens is that the article sites automatically have a link back to your web-site (giving you a higher kudos value in the search engines because you’re being linked to by an authority site). And when a web-site owner takes your article to publish on their own web-site, they automatically link back to your site too (giving you even more kudos).

(Notice I use the word kudos rather than the Google term PageRank which you’ll hear most people talk about. PageRank is cool. However, it’s not the be-all and end-all of search engine marketing, but it is important, don’t get me wrong. However I like to include all the search engines, not just Google :-))

Now here’s a nice little tip that I learned recently. When you write your article, you can use it to also build your list.

How?

Well, let’s say you write a post on your blog (or just update your website with a page about “Top 10 Tips For …”, you can write an article with the same title, but in the content, only give tips 10 down to 6. And in the resource box you can put something like “To find out the top 5 tips, visit my web-site at …”

Of course, the link to your web-site can be a squeeze page so that you capture the users email and name before you show them the full article on your web-site. This way you can build your list as well as build your back-links to your site. Winner all round, eh?

So, there you have it. 4 of the top recommendations by the experts. Now these aren’t the only tips to learn from attending an event such as World Internet Summit, but it’s certainly the most important tips to take on board right at the start of your Internet Marketing career.

Let me know how you get on, ok?

Don’t Drown In The Idea Tsunami

Internet Marketing No Comments

One thing I learned at The World Internet Summit UK 2007 was that anyone can have ideas; they’re kind of ten-a-penny.

What makes the difference is actually acting on your ideas and making them a reality.

But, it’s important not to get overwhelmed and drown in the “idea Tsunami”

Unfortunately, far too many hopeful Internet Marketers find their hopes dashed upon the rocks because they try and pursue too many ideas before they complete their first one.

Stick to your first idea until you’ve completed it, until it’s made a dollar or two. Then move on to the next.

And as Tracy Repchuck would say, the skill is in identifying those niche ideas that actually make sense, that will actually make a difference to your bottom line. How do you identify a profitable niche? I’ll talk in detail on that in a later post, I promise.

So how do you prevent idea overload?

Here’s a few simple tips:

  1. Keep a notebook with you at all times — if you carry a notebook or notepad with you then simply scribble down the idea. Sounds too easy, doesn’t it?! Well, maybe some of the best ideas are the easiest ones to implement :-)
  2. Lean how to use Mind Maps — possibly the best thing that I’ve ever learned is the effective use of Mind Mapping techniques. It gives you a truly wonderful way of recording your ideas on paper in such a way that makes it easier to remember when you refer back to it later on.
  3. Don’t worry about all the details of an idea when you first get it — think big picture level first. Write that down, but describe it in full or use the Mind Mapping technique.
  4. Refer to your idea journal whenever you have a spare hour — if you’re like me, you’ll never get that spare hour, but you might be able to more effectively use your, erm, bathroom time :-) — re-visit your ideas every so often just to keep them in mind. When you come back to something, you usually have a fresh pair of eyes for the subject, so you might just find that it’s not such a good idea after all!
  5. Make it a habit to keep your ideas in the journal — you’ll always have something to refer to, and you’ll always be ready for your next project because you’d have assessed all the ideas you’ve ever had. Sometimes you’ll find that although one idea is no good whatsoever, it may trigger something else in your creative thinking which lead to a far more profitable idea.

Simple steps, but I’ve found they help me.

But what’s this got to do with Internet Marketing …?

… on the surface, not a lot. It seems that I’ve been talking about idea management. However, once you get started in Internet Marketing, you’ll have a flood of good ideas, but just because you have an idea, it doesn’t mean you have to put it into action!

Leave it to mature for a while before you take action on it, because the last thing you want to do is go down the wrong path! Taking action is good; setting out on the trip is great; but make sure you’ve got a suitable map for the journey, eh?

Next time I’ll give a little insight into how to research your niche …

… I’ll even give you a map, ok?
